Anguillians Make Huge Invest In Tourism Investment Market The Government of Anguilla has been showered with accolades and praises yesterday morning in a press conference in which the Lake’s and Kentish’s Family Members publicly announced their proposed project to develop Conch Bay. The praises for the Government is mainly due to the Moratorium placed on Foreign Direct Tourism Investments. The Lakes’ Project which is termed as a first class tourism investment project will rival any in Anguilla, the region and the world at large. But the contrast here in Anguilla will be the fact that this is another proposed Anguillian owned project on this scale and magnitude.
Several Persons speaking at the press conference consistently praised Government for its vision of placing a moratorium on any new Foreign Direct Investment in the Tourism Market. This was done because the Government is committed towards ensuring that its policies are working for people and not just for profits. Chief Minister Fleming said that hew wants to ensure that he preserves the advantages and space that will afford Anguillians an opportunity to invest in their own development and future. Empowerment was not mentioned but it obviously spoken of.
The project is estimated to cost in the region of US$750 Million. The Government is putting programmes and policies in place to mitigate the vulnerabilities and threats to the overall development of Anguillians. However, Government is pleased that Anguillians have recognized that they too must fulfill their obligations in taking up the challenges and opportunities. Indeed the Lakes’ Family is a distinguished family in Anguilla for many years and has made great contributions in many faucets of society. We highly commend them for their ambitions and vision in ensuring Anguillians are numbered amongst the large developers of their own country and homeland.
Several issues that are affecting the present ongoing projects also will be of a concern for this development. However, the commitment is there from Government and from the Lakes to work in a cooperative fashion to ensure maximum thrust going forward whilst ensuring minimal effects within the nation. |
