Monday, November 13, 2006

The Honourable Chief Minister Osbourne Fleming left Friday, November 10th, 2006,  with a delegation of eight to attend the Inauguration of the Juliana International Airport the same evening.

The Inauguration commenced at 6:30pm.  It is a new day in the life of ST. Maarten and the region relative to air travel. The Inauguration’s theme was “ It’s a new day:  Celebrating the efforts within the Region to create a greater Caribbean Nation.”  The Inauguration of the airport was the prelude to the ST. Maarten Day festivities.  On Saturday, November 11th, 2006, the entire island celebrated through a series of activities.

Queen Beatrix was also present as well as other dignitaries.  The Inauguration of the new terminal building gives the airport and ST. Maarten a new perspective.  It is a time for introspection and retrospection.  Chief Minister Osbourne Fleming sat for the duration of the ceremony next to Mayor Albert Fleming of ST. Martin.  Governor Andrew George was also present with his wife.
