Teacher Exposure Tour The second half of 2011 started with a heightened interest from teachers of several primary schools in Anguilla, to get their students involved in more outdoor activities. The DOE has since facilitated several island-wide heritage tours for students preparing for the test of standards, in support of it Biodiversity and Heritage Act. On November 4, the DOE facilitated its first island wide heritage and biodiversity tour for teachers, (starting with representative teachers from each school). This will be followed up with round table discussions on the relevance of the sites and information tot eh classroom curricula. Another tour is scheduled for January 2012. As part of the ‘teacher exposure’ initiative, the staff of the Department of Environment also traded places with the teachers of the Morris Vanterpool Primary School in the East End Community. The focus was on understanding the teaching environment first hand, understanding the real opportunities for incorporating environmental education activities as well as sharing teaching strategies with teachers towards enhancing the dept of information shared with students about the natural resources in Anguilla. Next Step: Prepare the materials for which teachers and students can use.
