with the need to maintain the island’s ecological prestige.
Introduction to the department’s public awareness strategy
Recognizing the many competing interests, points of view and
needs by residents and visitors across the island, the department
will seek to engage all residents and visitors in as many ways
practically possible, towards ensuring the best practices are
encouraged and policies adhered to.
The department will further seek to encourage suggestions and
support community initiatives that are community based and in
support of better livelihoods, development and ecological stability.
•
Noting that disaster, degradation and change are
never restricted to the usual 8am-4pm work day, the
department recognizes the need for the kind support of
residents and visitors alike, toward observing,
reporting, managing as well as preventing the
degradation of Anguilla’s tranquil environment
•
the department therefore seeks to make every resident
and visitor para-environmental managers through
effective public awareness
the best & most effective environmental management
•
To facilitate change, in the attitudes, practices,
perceptions and understanding of the environment by
residents and visitors of the island, and to make clear
the role the department plays in national
environmental management,

the department aims to provide opportunities for
participation, training and development, information
gathering and review
•
as well as to lend technical support to the activities
and initiatives of importance to the residents and
visitors of the island
