The Value and Duration of
The Anguilla Island Scholarship

  1. The annual value of a scholarship should not exceed 5% of the annual rate for an approved study programme at the University of the West Indies (UWI). Where the approved study programme is not available at the UWI Executive Council will determine the value of the scholarship at the time it is awarded.
  2. The scholarship should not exceed the period of seven years stipulated by the Education Act.
  3. When awarding the scholarship consideration must be given to the course of study to be pursued and its relevance to Anguilla in both the short term and the long term.
  4. The prospective awardee of the scholarship will be required to indicate his/her area of study and the institute at which he/she intends to attend for submission to Executive Council for approval at the time of approving the scholarship awardee. This would ensure compliance with the relevant provisions of the Education Act. No change in the approved university etc or the approved course of study would be allowed except with the approval of the Executive Council.
  5. A period of twenty four months after the award of a scholarship is accepted as a reasonable period by which the scholarship awardee shall enter the approved university, college or institution. If an awardee wishes to enter the approved institution etc after the stated period of twenty four months the approval of Executive Council must be obtained.
  6. The Education Department should create an information package for all persons eligible for the Island Scholarship. The package should detail the criteria to be considered by the examiners in determining who has the best claim to be awarded the scholarship. In keeping with the spirit of the Education Act this criteria should be approved by the Executive Council.
  7. The Department of Public Administration in consultation with the Ministry of Education is responsible for reviewing the particulars of a prospective awardee and advising the Executive Council accordingly by October 31st of each year.
