Appointment of Contract Officers
in the Public Service

Contractual officers will be required to indicate their interest in renewing their contract at least six months prior to the completion date of the contract period. At the same time the Department of Public Administration will advertise these positions using the appropriate media and covering the appropriate geographical areas, depending on the office being advertised. The current office holders will not be required to re-apply for the jobs, merely to update their curriculum vitae.

Applicants together with the incumbent must submit all relevant documentation and will be considered for the position at least three months prior to completion of the existing contract. This will allow the office holder sufficient time to seek alternative employment if he/she is not selected.

This procedure still allows the designated authorities, The Governor, Public Service Commission, and Judicial Service Commission, the right to select the individual best equipped to fill the position. They will however have greater choice in making their selection.

Where appropriate, officers on contract will be required/encouraged to be appointed to the permanent establishment.
